Possible Causes
Water supply turned off, Failed water inlet valve, Low refrigerant charge, Weak compressor, Faulty circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and shut off water before removing panels or hoses.
- Step 1 – Confirm water supply: Verify the shutoff valve is open and the supply line is not kinked. Loosen the line at the inlet valve briefly to confirm water flow (have a towel ready).
- Step 2 – Check reservoir fill: With power on, observe whether the reservoir fills to the proper level at the start of a cycle. If not, test and replace the water inlet valve as needed.
- Step 3 – Verify circulation pump: During the freeze cycle, you should hear water spraying or flowing over the evaporator plate. If silent, access the pump, check for obstructions, and test for voltage. Replace the pump if it does not run with proper voltage.
- Step 4 – Evaluate cooling: Carefully feel the evaporator plate after several minutes of operation. It should become very cold and begin to frost. If it remains warm while the compressor runs, a sealed system issue (refrigerant leak, restriction, or weak compressor) is likely and requires a certified technician.
Address water and pump issues first; if those are normal and there is still no ice, schedule sealed system service.
