Possible Causes

Failed cabinet thermistor, Loose sensor harness connection, Damaged wiring between sensor and control board, Faulty main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing panels or handling wiring.

  • Locate the ambient sensor: On many Westinghouse ice makers, the cabinet or ambient thermistor is mounted near the air intake grille or on the interior liner behind a small cover.
  • Inspect wiring: Remove the cover and visually inspect the sensor and harness. Look for pinched, cut, or discolored wires. Ensure the connector is fully seated on the control board.
  • Measure resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance. Compare to the temperature/resistance chart in the service manual. Replace the sensor if readings are far out of range or unstable.
  • Check for moisture damage: Condensation can corrode the sensor connector. Clean light corrosion with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush, then reconnect firmly.
  • Replace control board if needed: If the sensor tests correctly and wiring is intact, the main control PCB may not be reading the sensor. Replace the board following manufacturer procedures.
