Possible Causes
Clogged water inlet screen, Failed water inlet valve coil, Low household water pressure, Kinked or frozen inlet line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off the water supply and unplug the unit before working on the water system.
- Check water supply: Confirm the shutoff valve to the ice maker is fully open. Verify household water pressure is at least 20–40 psi.
- Inspect inlet line: Look for kinks, sharp bends, or freezing in the plastic or copper supply line. Straighten or thaw as needed.
- Clean inlet screen: Remove the rear access panel to reach the water inlet valve. Disconnect the inlet hose and gently remove and clean the small mesh screen inside the valve using a soft brush.
- Test valve coil: With power disconnected, remove the electrical connectors from the valve coil and measure resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed coil; replace the valve assembly.
- Check for leaks: After reassembly, slowly turn on the water and inspect for drips at all connections.
- Run a test cycle: Restore power and start an ice-making cycle to confirm the E5 code is cleared and the unit fills properly.
