Possible Causes
Dirty or blocked bin full sensor, Failed infrared emitter/receiver pair, Misaligned sensor bracket, Damaged sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working inside the ice bin area.
- Locate the bin sensor: Many Westinghouse ice makers use an infrared beam across the top of the bin or a mechanical lever to detect a full bin.
- Clean the sensor: If it is an optical sensor, gently clean the emitter and receiver lenses with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner. Remove any ice, frost, or mineral deposits blocking the beam.
- Check alignment: Ensure the sensor brackets are not bent and that the emitter and receiver face each other directly.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor harness back to the control board. Confirm connectors are tight and wires are intact.
- Test operation: Restore power and observe the status LED (if present) on the sensor. Manually block and unblock the beam or move the lever to verify the control responds. If not, replace the bin full sensor assembly.
