E5
Whirlpool
Water Fill / Flow Error
Whirlpool ice maker displays E5 and stops making ice shortly after filling

Possible Causes
Restricted water inlet valve, low household water pressure, clogged inlet screen, kinked water supply line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and close the water supply valve before disconnecting any water lines.
- Verify water supply: Ensure the saddle valve or shutoff valve to the ice maker is fully open. Confirm household water pressure is at least 30 psi.
- Inspect supply line: Check the copper or braided line for kinks or crushing. Straighten or replace as needed.
- Clean inlet screen: Disconnect the water line at the ice maker’s water inlet valve. Remove and clean the small screen filter inside the valve using a soft brush and water.
- Test the inlet valve: With power off, disconnect the valve’s electrical connector. Measure coil resistance; compare to Whirlpool specs. If open or shorted, replace the valve.
- Restore and test: Reconnect everything, turn on water and power, and run a cycle. If E5 persists with good flow and a good valve, the control board may be misreading the fill time.
