E9
Whirlpool
Condenser Temperature / Overheat Fault
Whirlpool ice maker displays E9 and shuts down after a short run

Possible Causes
Blocked condenser coil, failed condenser fan motor, high ambient temperature, defective condenser temperature sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning or servicing the condenser area.
- Clean condenser coils: Remove the lower front or rear panel to access the condenser. Use a coil brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the fins.
- Check condenser fan: Spin the fan blade by hand; it should move freely. With power restored briefly, verify the fan runs when the compressor runs. If not, test for voltage at the fan motor and replace the motor if it has power but does not run.
- Inspect condenser sensor: If equipped, locate the condenser temperature sensor clipped to the coil. Ensure it is properly attached and test its resistance against Whirlpool specs.
- Improve ventilation: Make sure the ice maker has adequate clearance around vents and is not installed in a confined, overheated space.
- Reset and monitor: After cleaning and repairs, restore power and run the unit. If E9 recurs despite proper cooling and a good sensor, the control board may be misreading the temperature.
