F5
Whirlpool
Low Fill Volume / Flow Restriction
Whirlpool refrigerator ice maker shows F5 and ice cubes are very small or hollow
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Partially clogged water filter, restricted saddle valve, partially blocked inlet valve screen, low household water pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off water supply before disconnecting any lines.
- Replace water filter: Install a new Whirlpool-approved filter and flush several gallons of water through the dispenser.
- Inspect saddle valve: If a self-piercing saddle valve is used, consider replacing it with a full-bore shutoff valve. Ensure it is fully open.
- Clean inlet screen: Disconnect the water line at the refrigerator inlet valve and clean the small screen filter.
- Check pressure: Confirm that water pressure at the refrigerator is at least 30–40 psi. If pressure is low, correct the plumbing issue.
- Monitor ice size: After corrections, allow several cycles for ice size to normalize. If F5 persists, the control may be misinterpreting fill time and could require service.
