Possible Causes

Dirty condenser coil, high ambient temperature, restricted water flow, partially iced evaporator

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before cleaning or servicing.

  • Clean condenser: Remove the front kick plate and use a coil brush and vacuum to clean dust and lint from the condenser fins.
  • Check room temperature: Ensure the unit is installed in a room within Whirlpool’s specified ambient range (typically 55–100°F). Very hot rooms reduce capacity.
  • Verify water flow: Confirm strong flow at the water inlet. Clean the inlet screen and replace any clogged external filter.
  • Defrost evaporator: If you see heavy frost or ice buildup on the evaporator plate, unplug the unit and allow it to fully defrost. Restart and monitor. Persistent icing may indicate a sensor or control issue.
