Possible Causes
Incorrect water level adjustment, warm incoming water, faulty evaporator thermistor, control board miscalibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before adjustments.
- Check water temperature: Ensure the supply is cold water. Hot water lines will reduce ice quality.
- Adjust water level (if applicable): Some Whirlpool models have a water level adjustment screw on the reservoir float. Follow the tech sheet to set the correct level so the evaporator plate is properly covered but not overflowing.
- Inspect evaporator thermistor: Verify it is firmly attached to the evaporator and not loose. Replace if readings are out of spec.
- Run a test cycle: After adjustments, run a full cycle and observe freeze time. If ice remains slushy, further diagnosis of the control board may be required.
