Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, Open compressor overload protector, Faulty compressor windings, Loose wiring at compressor terminal block
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the Zanussi ice maker before accessing the compressor compartment. The compressor and discharge line can be very hot.
- Access compressor area: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the compressor, start relay, and overload protector.
- Check wiring: Inspect the harness and spade connectors on the compressor terminals. Tighten or replace any loose or burnt connectors.
- Test start relay: Remove the relay from the compressor. Shake it gently; if it rattles or smells burnt, replace it. Use a multimeter to check continuity according to the relay's pin layout.
- Test overload protector: With the unit unplugged, remove the overload device and check for continuity. Replace if open.
- Check compressor windings: Measure resistance between the three compressor pins (C, S, R). Look for open circuits or direct shorts to ground. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is defective and requires professional replacement.
- Reinstall and test: Fit the new start relay and overload, reconnect wiring, reassemble the panel, then power on and listen for the compressor to start. Clear the E02 code if the model allows.
