Possible Causes

Defective primary door switch, Defective secondary door switch, Misaligned door latch hooks, Faulty door switch wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave from the mains before removing any panels. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain charge even when unplugged. Do not touch the high-voltage capacitor or magnetron area unless you are trained.

  • Step 1 – Check door closure: Ensure the AEG microwave door closes fully and evenly. Inspect the plastic latch hooks on the door for cracks or deformation. If the door feels loose or misaligned, adjust the hinges (built-in models) or reseat the unit in its housing.
  • Step 2 – Inspect door switches (interlocks): With power disconnected, remove the outer cabinet (usually screws at the back and sides). Locate the door interlock switch cluster near the latch openings. Check that each microswitch actuator is properly engaged when the door is closed.
  • Step 3 – Test switches: Using a multimeter set to continuity, test each door switch (primary, secondary, and monitor switch if present). Replace any switch that does not change state (open/closed) correctly when pressed.
  • Step 4 – Check wiring harness: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors to the interlock switches for heat damage, loose terminals, or broken wires. Reseat connectors firmly.
  • Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Refit the cabinet, restore power, and test operation. If E01 persists, the control PCB may be misreading the interlock circuit and should be checked by a qualified technician.
