Possible Causes
Blocked cooling vents, Failed cooling fan motor, Faulty magnetron temperature sensor, Overheated magnetron
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the appliance. High-voltage components inside an AEG microwave can be lethal. Do not touch the capacitor, transformer, or magnetron terminals.
- Step 1 – Check ventilation: Ensure the microwave has adequate clearance around the sides, top, and rear as specified in the AEG installation manual. Remove any obstructions from the external vents and grille.
- Step 2 – Clean air paths: Remove the outer cover (if competent to do so) and vacuum dust from the cooling fan area and internal air channels. Do not bend or damage the fan blades.
- Step 3 – Inspect cooling fan: Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without noise. If seized or noisy, replace the cooling fan motor assembly.
- Step 4 – Check magnetron thermostat/sensor: Locate the thermal cut-out or NTC sensor mounted on or near the magnetron. Test for continuity (for a thermostat) or resistance (for an NTC) according to the service manual. Replace if open-circuit or out of specification.
- Step 5 – Test again: Reassemble, restore power, and run the microwave with a cup of water for several minutes. If E02 reappears quickly, the magnetron may be overheating and should be replaced by a professional.
