Possible Causes
Worn rotary encoder, Broken selector knob shaft, Loose encoder connection, Faulty user interface PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before removing the control panel.
- Step 1 – Check knob operation: Rotate the selector knob and feel for smooth, distinct clicks. If it spins freely without detents or skips selections, the encoder may be worn.
- Step 2 – Inspect knob and shaft: Remove the knob and check for cracks or rounding of the shaft. Replace the knob if damaged.
- Step 3 – Access encoder: Remove the control panel and inspect the rotary encoder soldered to the PCB. Check for cracked solder joints or physical damage.
- Step 4 – Repair or replace: Resolder cracked joints if competent, or replace the encoder or entire user interface PCB with the correct AEG part.
