Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the microwave or switch off the dedicated circuit breaker before any inspection. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a charge even when unplugged. Do not touch internal high-voltage parts (capacitor, magnetron, transformer) unless you are trained and properly equipped.
- Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and test. Sometimes a transient fault in the control board can trigger F1.
- Check for stuck keys: Gently press each button on the keypad several times. If any key feels stuck or does not click, the membrane keypad may be shorted.
- Inspect keypad ribbon: Remove the control panel (usually by removing the top grille and one or two mounting screws). Carefully disconnect and reseat the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board. Ensure it is fully inserted and not corroded.
- Dry out moisture: If the keypad area is damp from steam, leave the door open and allow the control panel to dry for several hours. Avoid directing steam from the cooktop toward the control panel.
- If F1 persists: The membrane keypad or the electronic control board is likely defective. On many Amana models, the keypad is integrated with the control panel. Replacement of the control panel assembly or control board is required. If you are not comfortable working around high-voltage components, contact a qualified technician.
