Possible Causes
Shorted membrane keypad, Moisture ingress into control panel, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Failed keypad interface circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the microwave before removing the control panel.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 10 minutes, then reconnect. If SE appears immediately, the keypad is likely shorted.
- Dry the panel: If SE appeared after heavy steaming, leave the door open and allow the control area to dry for several hours. Avoid using the range cooktop directly under the control panel without proper ventilation.
- Inspect keypad ribbon: Remove the control panel and check the flat ribbon for corrosion or damage. Reseat the connector on the control board.
- Replace keypad/control panel: If SE persists, replace the control panel assembly (which includes the membrane keypad). If a new panel does not resolve the issue, the main control board’s keypad interface is likely defective and must be replaced.
