Possible Causes
Defective monitor switch, Incorrect door switch alignment, Damaged door latch cam, Shorted wiring in door switch harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave. High-voltage components inside can be lethal. If unsure, use a professional technician.
- Check door operation: Open and close the door several times. Listen for distinct clicks from the switches. A missing or weak click can indicate a bad switch.
- Access switch assembly: Remove the outer cover. Locate the door switch bracket on the side of the cavity where the latch hooks enter.
- Inspect the monitor switch: The monitor switch is usually wired differently (often with a different colored wire). Look for signs of overheating or melting.
- Test with a multimeter: Remove wires and test continuity according to the switch diagram printed on its body. Replace if it does not change state correctly when the door is opened/closed.
- Check latch cam and bracket: Ensure the plastic latch cam that actuates the switches is not cracked or loose. Tighten screws or replace the latch bracket if worn.
Note: Door switch circuits are a safety system. All switches must be correctly installed and adjusted.
