Possible Causes
Broken door latch hook, Worn door catch assembly, Misaligned door hinges, Deformed door frame
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before any disassembly.
- Visual inspection: Open the door and inspect the plastic latch hooks on the Amica microwave door. If they are cracked, loose, or worn down, they may not actuate the internal switches.
- Check door alignment: Close the door slowly and observe if it sits evenly against the front frame. If the door is sagging, the hinges may be bent or loose. Tighten hinge screws if accessible.
- Inspect strike plate/catch: On the cabinet side, inspect the latch receptacle or strike plate where the hooks enter. Look for broken plastic or misalignment.
- Replace damaged parts: If a latch hook or catch is broken, replace the complete door latch assembly or door complete as supplied by Amica. This often comes preassembled for safety.
- Test operation: After reassembly, test with a cup of water. If the error remains, the door switch bracket may be bent and should be inspected by a technician.
