Possible Causes
Blocked air vents, Failed cavity thermal cutout (thermostat), Cooling fan not running, Excessive grease buildup around vents
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before inspection.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the Amica microwave has the required clearance on all sides (see user manual). Remove any items blocking the side, rear, or top vents.
- Clean vents: Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust and grease from the ventilation grilles.
- Verify cooling fan operation: With the cover removed (power disconnected), locate the cooling fan. Refit the cover, plug in, and briefly start the microwave with a cup of water while observing from the rear (if safe). The fan should run whenever the magnetron is on. If it does not, the fan motor may be defective.
- Inspect thermal cutouts: With power disconnected, locate the cavity and magnetron thermal cutouts (small round thermostats clipped to the cavity or magnetron). Check for signs of overheating or loose mounting.
- Replace faulty parts: If the fan motor is seized or the cavity thermal cutout is open-circuit (tested with a multimeter), replace the defective component with the correct Amica spare.
