Possible Causes

Open magnetron thermostat, Failed cavity thermal fuse, Blocked cooling air vents, Failed cooling fan motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Unplug the microwave. Internal components can store lethal voltage. Do not touch the high-voltage capacitor or magnetron terminals unless you are trained and have properly discharged the capacitor.

Steps to check:

  • 1. Verify ventilation: Ensure the microwave has proper clearance on all sides per the Avanti manual. Remove any obstructions from intake and exhaust vents. Clean dust and grease from vents with a soft brush and vacuum.
  • 2. Inspect cooling fan operation: With the cabinet removed (unplugged first, then reassembled for test), briefly power the unit and start a short cook cycle while observing from a safe distance. Confirm the internal cooling fan runs. If the fan does not run, unplug and test the fan motor for continuity and free rotation. Replace the fan motor if seized or open.
  • 3. Test thermal cutouts/thermostats: Locate the magnetron thermostat and cavity thermal fuse (usually clipped to the magnetron body and on the top or side of the cavity). With power disconnected, test each device for continuity. A blown thermal fuse or open thermostat will read open. Replace any open device with the exact Avanti-rated replacement.
  • 4. Check for blocked air channels: Inspect internal air ducts for grease buildup or foreign objects. Clean carefully without bending metal ducts.
  • 5. Reassemble and test: After replacing faulty parts, reassemble the cabinet, restore power, and test with a cup of water. If E2 returns, the magnetron or control board may be defective and should be evaluated by a professional.
