Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation, Failed cooling fan motor, Grease buildup in air passages, Faulty thermal cutout
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave and allow it to cool completely before inspection.
Steps:
- 1. Check ventilation: Ensure the microwave has the required clearance from walls and cabinets. Clean all external vents of dust and grease.
- 2. Clean filters (OTR models): For over-the-range Avanti microwaves, remove and clean the grease filters with warm soapy water. Replace charcoal filters if saturated.
- 3. Verify fan operation: During a cook cycle, listen for the internal cooling fan. If it does not run, unplug the unit and test the fan motor for continuity and free movement. Replace if defective.
- 4. Inspect thermal cutouts: Test the thermal cutouts/thermostats for continuity. Replace any that are open and not resettable.
