Possible Causes
Shorted membrane keypad, Moisture or liquid behind keypad, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Failed touch controller on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before working on the control panel.
Steps:
- 1. Power reset: Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in. If SE reappears immediately, continue.
- 2. Dry out moisture: If SE appeared after a spill or heavy steam, leave the unit unplugged with the door open for several hours to dry. Do not use heat sources directly on the panel.
- 3. Inspect keypad ribbon: Remove the control panel and check the flat ribbon cable for cracks, kinks, or corrosion. Reseat the cable at the control board.
- 4. Replace keypad: If SE persists, replace the membrane keypad or entire control panel assembly as specified for your Avanti model.
- 5. Control board replacement: If a new keypad does not resolve the issue, the control board may have a failed touch controller IC and should be replaced.
