Possible Causes
Damaged waveguide cover, Exposed metal from chipped cavity paint, Metal object or twist-tie inside, Food residue carbonized on walls
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately stop the microwave and unplug it if you see smoke or sparks. Do not continue to operate until the cause is corrected.
Steps:
- 1. Remove all items: Check for metal utensils, foil, or twist-ties left in the oven. Remove any non-microwave-safe items.
- 2. Inspect waveguide cover: Locate the mica or plastic waveguide cover on the side wall. If it is burned, cracked, or has holes, replace it with the correct Avanti waveguide cover.
- 3. Clean cavity thoroughly: Remove all grease and food splatter, especially in corners and around the waveguide area. Use a non-abrasive cleaner.
- 4. Touch-up paint: If cavity paint is chipped down to bare metal, use microwave-safe cavity touch-up paint to cover exposed metal after cleaning and drying.
- 5. Persistent smell or arcing: If arcing continues after these steps, the magnetron or internal components may be damaged and require professional service.
