Possible Causes
Grease buildup on cavity walls, Contaminated grease filters (OTR models), Charred food residue, Contaminated waveguide cover
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing filters or covers.
Steps:
- 1. Deep clean cavity: Wipe interior surfaces with a solution of mild detergent and warm water. For stubborn odors, heat a bowl of water with lemon slices for several minutes, then wipe down again.
- 2. Clean or replace filters: On over-the-range Avanti microwaves, remove grease filters and wash them in hot soapy water. Replace charcoal filters if they are saturated or older than recommended.
- 3. Inspect waveguide cover: If the cover is stained or has absorbed odors, replace it.
- 4. Ventilation: Run the vent fan (if equipped) and leave the door open after cooking to allow odors to dissipate.
