Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave from the mains. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a dangerous charge even when unplugged. Do not touch the high-voltage capacitor or magnetron area unless you are trained.
Basic checks (user level):
- Open and close the door firmly several times to ensure the latches engage correctly.
- Inspect the door for visible damage or sagging hinges that might prevent proper closure.
- Check that no food debris or warped containers are obstructing the door frame or latch area.
Technical checks (technician level):
- Remove the outer cabinet (after unplugging) and locate the door interlock switches on the latch bracket.
- Using a multimeter, test the primary, secondary, and monitor switches for correct continuity according to their NO/NC configuration when the door is opened/closed.
- Replace any switch that shows open circuit when it should be closed, or vice versa, or has intermittent readings when the actuator is pressed.
- Inspect the plastic latch hooks on the door and the latch bracket for cracks or misalignment; replace if worn or broken.
If you are not experienced with microwave repair, contact an authorized Balay service technician, as incorrect work on the safety interlock system can be hazardous.
