Microwave runs (light and fan on, turntable may rotate) but food remains cold; E03 appears on the display after a short time.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety warning: High-voltage components inside a microwave (transformer, capacitor, diode, magnetron) can be lethal. The capacitor can retain charge even when unplugged. Only qualified technicians should work on these parts.
User-level checks:
- Confirm you are using microwave-safe cookware and not metal or dishes with metallic trim.
- Try heating a cup of water for 1–2 minutes. If it remains cold and E03 appears, discontinue use.
Technician-level outline (do not attempt if untrained):
- Unplug the unit and safely discharge the high-voltage capacitor using an appropriate resistor and insulated tools.
- Inspect the magnetron for burn marks, cracks, or arcing signs around the antenna and waveguide.
- Test the high-voltage diode and capacitor with appropriate test methods; replace if shorted or open.
- Check the high-voltage transformer (if fitted) for open windings or overheating signs.
Because of the risks, this repair should be handled by an authorized Balay technician. Do not operate the microwave until the fault is corrected.
