Possible Causes
Damaged or burnt mica waveguide cover, Food or grease buildup on cavity walls, Use of metal containers or foil, Exposed metal on cavity paint
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Stop the microwave immediately if you see sparks. Unplug before cleaning or inspection.
- Step 1 – Remove metal objects: Ensure you are not using metal cookware, foil, or dishes with metallic trim.
- Step 2 – Clean the cavity: Thoroughly clean the interior, especially around the waveguide cover (usually a small rectangular panel on the side wall). Remove all grease and food splatters.
- Step 3 – Inspect waveguide cover: If the mica cover is burnt, cracked, or has holes, replace it with a genuine Bauknecht waveguide cover cut to the correct size.
- Step 4 – Touch-up paint: If enamel is chipped exposing bare metal, use microwave-safe cavity touch-up paint to cover small spots (follow manufacturer instructions).
- Step 5 – Test: After cleaning and replacing the cover, test with a cup of water. If arcing persists, have a technician inspect the magnetron and waveguide.
