Microwave will not start; display shows E0 immediately after pressing START.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave from the mains before removing any panels. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a dangerous charge even when unplugged. Do not touch the high-voltage capacitor or magnetron area unless you are trained and have discharged the capacitor properly.
- Step 1 – Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and evenly. Inspect the plastic latch hooks on the door for cracks or deformation. If the door feels loose or does not click firmly, the interlock switches may not be actuated.
- Step 2 – Inspect door switches (interlocks): Remove the outer cabinet (usually screws at the back and sides). Locate the door interlock switch cluster near the door latch. Check for broken switch mounts or loose screws. Gently press each switch actuator; it should click distinctly.
- Step 3 – Electrical test: With the unit unplugged, disconnect one wire from each door switch. Use a multimeter in continuity mode to test each switch while pressing and releasing the actuator. Replace any switch that does not change state (open/closed) correctly.
- Step 4 – Check wiring harness: Inspect the wiring to the switches for burnt, pinched, or broken wires. Repair or replace damaged wires or terminals.
- Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Refit the cabinet, ensuring no wires are pinched. Plug in and test. If E0 persists, the control PCB may be misreading the interlock circuit and should be checked by a qualified technician.
