Possible Causes
Damaged membrane keypad, Loose ribbon cable between keypad and control PCB, Moisture ingress behind control panel, Faulty control PCB keypad interface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing the control panel. Avoid contact with the high-voltage section.
- Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the microwave for 5 minutes, then reconnect. Sometimes static or minor glitches can cause keypad errors.
- Step 2 – Inspect the control panel: Check for cracks, dents, or signs of liquid spills on the keypad area. If the panel is wet, leave the door open and allow it to dry completely for 24 hours before further testing.
- Step 3 – Access keypad ribbon cable: Remove the control panel assembly (usually a few screws inside the door frame or behind the top grille). Carefully disconnect and reconnect the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control PCB to clean the contacts.
- Step 4 – Test keypad: With the panel reinstalled and the unit plugged in, test all buttons. If specific keys still do not respond, the membrane keypad is likely defective.
- Step 5 – Replace keypad or control panel: On many Bomann models, the keypad is integrated with the control panel fascia. Replace the entire control panel assembly or membrane keypad as supplied for your model.
- Step 6 – Control PCB: If a new keypad does not resolve E6, the control PCB may be faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
