Possible Causes
Failed cavity cooling fan motor, Blocked air ducts, Fan motor wiring fault, Faulty fan relay on control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing the cabinet. Beware of sharp metal edges.
- Step 1 – Check vents: Ensure that all external vents are clear of dust, grease, or obstructions. Do not operate the microwave in a confined space without proper ventilation.
- Step 2 – Listen for fan operation: During a short heating test (with a cup of water), listen for the internal cooling fan. If you do not hear it, stop the test immediately.
- Step 3 – Access fan motor: Remove the outer cabinet. Locate the cooling fan (usually near the magnetron and transformer). Check that the blades are not obstructed and can spin freely.
- Step 4 – Test fan motor: Disconnect the fan motor wires and test for continuity with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed motor that must be replaced.
- Step 5 – Inspect wiring and relay: Check the wiring from the control PCB to the fan motor. If the motor is good but not receiving power, the fan relay or control PCB may be defective and require replacement.
