Possible Causes

Blocked cooling vents, Failed cooling fan motor, Defective magnetron temperature sensor, Overheated magnetron

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave. Do not remove the outer cabinet; internal components carry lethal voltages even when unplugged.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the top, sides, and rear of the Bosch microwave have the clearance specified in the user manual. Remove any items blocking the vents. Clean dust and grease from external vents with a soft brush and mild detergent.
  • Inspect installation: For built-in or over-the-range Bosch models, verify that the exhaust ducting is not crushed or blocked and that filters are installed correctly.
  • Clean grease filters (if over-the-range): Remove metal grease filters and wash with hot soapy water or in a dishwasher if allowed. Let them dry completely before reinstalling.
  • Cool-down reset: Leave the unit unplugged for 20–30 minutes to allow internal thermal protectors to reset. Then reconnect power and test with a cup of water for 1–2 minutes.

If E02 returns: The cooling fan motor, magnetron thermostat, or magnetron itself may be defective. These require cabinet removal and high-voltage handling; contact a Bosch service technician.
