Possible Causes

Defective primary door switch, Defective secondary door switch, Misaligned door latch hooks, Faulty door switch wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave from the mains. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain charge even when unplugged. Do not touch the high-voltage capacitor or magnetron area unless you are trained.

Basic checks (no disassembly):

  • Open and close the door firmly several times and try again. Listen for distinct clicks from the door switches.
  • Check that the door is not sagging or obstructed by debris on the latch side.
  • Verify the child lock is not active (look for a key/lock icon and disable according to the user manual).

Door switch inspection (requires removing outer cover):

  • Unplug the unit and remove it from the cabinet if built-in.
  • Remove the outer cover screws and carefully lift off the cover. Do not touch the high-voltage section (transformer, capacitor, magnetron).
  • Locate the door latch assembly on the front side; you will see 2–3 microswitches (interlock switches) actuated by the door hooks.
  • Visually inspect for broken switch actuators, loose mounting screws, or burnt connectors.
  • Using a multimeter on continuity, test each switch while pressing the actuator: one should change from open to closed, another from closed to open when the door is closed.
  • Replace any switch that does not change state correctly or shows intermittent readings.
  • Reassemble the cover, ensuring all screws are fitted, then test operation.

When to stop: If you are not comfortable working around high-voltage components or the door frame/latch is bent, stop and contact a qualified technician. Never bypass or short door switches.
