Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing the control panel.
Initial checks:
- Wipe the keypad surface with a slightly damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry thoroughly. Sticky residue can sometimes cause false key presses.
- Leave the unit unplugged for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and test.
Panel inspection:
- Remove the screws securing the control panel and gently pull it forward.
- Inspect the keypad ribbon cable where it plugs into the control board. Reseat it carefully, ensuring it is straight and fully inserted.
- Look for signs of moisture, corrosion, or burned traces on the small keypad PCB (if present).
Repair: If certain keys still do not respond or E6 persists, the membrane keypad assembly or entire control panel will need replacement. On many Commercial Chef models, the keypad is bonded to the panel and is replaced as a single unit.
