Microwave displays E8 and stops mid-cycle or will not start

Safety first: Unplug the microwave before accessing the underside or internal components.

Step-by-step checks:

• 1. Check for mechanical obstruction: Remove the glass tray and roller ring. Inspect for food debris, broken glass, or warped plastic that could jam the turntable coupler. Clean thoroughly.
• 2. Inspect coupler: Remove the plastic coupler from the center shaft. Check for cracks or rounding of the drive surfaces. Replace if damaged.
• 3. Test without load: With the tray and ring removed, run the microwave briefly (with a microwave-safe cup of water) and observe if the coupler shaft turns. If it does not move and E8 appears, suspect the motor or wiring.
• 4. Access turntable motor: On many Daewoo models, the turntable motor is accessible from the bottom. Remove the bottom cover (if removable) or the outer cabinet. Locate the motor under the cavity floor.
• 5. Test motor: Disconnect the motor wires and test for continuity with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Also inspect wiring for burns or loose connectors.
• 6. Replace motor if faulty: Remove the mounting screws, swap in a new Daewoo-compatible turntable motor, reconnect wiring, and reassemble.
