Possible Causes
Failed humidity sensor, Contaminated sensor port with grease or food, Loose sensor wiring, Faulty sensor circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before internal cleaning near the sensor.
User-level steps:
- Clean the cavity: Wipe the interior, especially near the steam sensor opening (often on the top or side wall), to remove grease and residue.
- Steam test: Place a cup of water inside and run a sensor cook program. If E71 appears quickly, the sensor may be faulty.
- You can still use manual time and power settings if allowed by the control, but sensor modes may remain disabled.
Technician-level steps:
- Locate the humidity/steam sensor behind the cavity wall.
- Inspect and reseat the sensor connector and wiring harness.
- Replace the humidity sensor if contamination cleaning does not resolve the error.
- If a new sensor does not fix the issue, the main control board sensor circuit may be defective.
