Possible Causes

Damaged membrane keypad, Moisture intrusion behind control panel, Loose ribbon cable between keypad and control board, Failed control board keypad interface

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave before accessing the control panel.

Moisture and cleaning:

  • Dry the panel: If the error appeared after heavy steam cooking or cleaning, leave the door open and allow the unit to dry for several hours. Do not spray cleaners directly on the keypad.
  • Clean surface: Wipe the keypad gently with a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly.

Inspect keypad connections:

  • Remove the control panel assembly (usually a few screws and lifting the panel up and out).
  • Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board. Carefully disconnect, inspect for corrosion or cracks, and reconnect firmly.
  • If the ribbon is damaged or the keypad overlay is bubbled, cracked, or unresponsive on certain keys, replace the keypad or entire control panel assembly.

Test: Reassemble, plug in, and test all keypad functions. If E6 persists, the main control board may need replacement.
