Possible Causes

Faulty main control PCB, damaged keypad membrane, loose ribbon cable between keypad and control board, power surge damage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave before touching any internal parts.

Reset procedure:

  • Unplug the microwave for 5–10 minutes to allow the control board to fully discharge.
  • Plug back in and set the clock. Try a simple 30-second cook test. If E3 reappears immediately, continue below.

Keypad and cable checks:

  • Inspect keypad: Check if any buttons are stuck, damaged, or unresponsive. Wipe the control panel with a slightly damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
  • Access control panel (for experienced DIYers): Remove the top grille (if present) and the control panel mounting screw. Tilt the panel out carefully.
  • Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board. Gently unplug and re-seat it, ensuring it is fully inserted and straight.

If the error persists, the keypad membrane or main control PCB is likely defective. Replacement usually requires ordering the exact Farberware control panel or PCB assembly and is best done by a technician.
