Possible Causes

Shorted keypad membrane, moisture behind control panel, damaged control panel overlay, contaminated ribbon connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave.

Drying and cleaning:

  • If SE appeared after cleaning or heavy steam, leave the door open and allow the control panel to dry for several hours.
  • Wipe the panel with a dry cloth. Avoid using excessive water or spray cleaners directly on the keypad.

Ribbon connector check (for experienced DIYers):

  • Remove the control panel as per your model's instructions.
  • Disconnect the keypad ribbon cable from the control board, inspect for corrosion or residue, and gently clean with isopropyl alcohol if needed.
  • Reconnect firmly and reassemble.

If SE returns or certain keys remain unresponsive, the keypad membrane or entire control panel assembly must be replaced with the correct Farberware part.
