Possible Causes
Open thermal cut-out on magnetron, Open cavity thermal fuse, Blocked cooling vents, Failed cooling fan motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the microwave to cool completely before inspection.
- Check ventilation: Ensure that all vents are clear and that the installation meets Fisher & Paykel clearance requirements.
- Clean filters and vents: For over-the-range models, remove and clean grease filters. Vacuum dust from intake and exhaust vents.
- Inspect thermal cut-outs: With the cover removed and power disconnected, locate thermal cut-outs on the magnetron and cavity. Test for continuity. Replace any open device with the exact-rated Fisher & Paykel part.
- Verify fan operation: If the internal cooling fan does not run during cooking, test and replace the fan motor as needed.
- Reset and test: After replacing any faulty components, reassemble, restore power, and test. If E4 returns, further diagnosis of the control board may be required.
