Possible Causes

Overheated control PCB area due to poor ventilation, Failed cavity temperature sensor (if equipped), Shorted wiring harness near control board, Defective main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the outlet or circuit breaker. Allow the microwave to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure that the Fisher & Paykel microwave has the required clearance around sides, top, and rear as specified in the user manual. Remove any items blocking the vents.
  • Clean vents and filters: For over-the-range models, remove and clean the grease filters. Vacuum dust from intake and exhaust vents to improve airflow.
  • Power reset: After cooling and cleaning, restore power and test. If F2 clears and does not return, the fault may have been due to temporary overheating.
  • Inspect control area: Remove the top grille and control panel to access the control board area. Look for signs of heat damage, discolored PCB, or melted wiring. If found, the control board and any damaged wiring should be replaced.
  • Check temperature sensor (if fitted): Some Fisher & Paykel microwaves use a cavity or control-area thermistor. Test the sensor with a multimeter for correct resistance per the service manual. Replace if open, shorted, or out of specification.
  • Replace control PCB: If the sensor and wiring are good but F2 persists, the main control PCB is likely faulty and should be replaced with the correct Fisher & Paykel part.
