Microwave displays F8 and will not start; may be associated with fan or airflow issues.

Safety first: Unplug the microwave. Internal components can be sharp and electrically hazardous.

• Check external airflow: Ensure that the microwave vents are not blocked by cabinets, walls, or objects. For built-in Fisher & Paykel models, verify that installation followed the specified clearances.
• Listen for fan operation: When the unit previously ran, note whether you could hear the internal cooling fan. If it was unusually quiet or noisy, the fan may be failing.
• Access fan motor: Remove the outer cover (countertop) or top grille and mounting screws (built-in/OTR) to access the cooling fan assembly. Do not touch the high-voltage section.
• Inspect fan blades and motor: Check for obstructions (plastic wrap, insulation, debris) preventing the fan from turning. Remove any blockage. Spin the fan by hand; it should turn freely.
• Test fan motor: With a multimeter, test the fan motor for continuity. An open winding indicates a failed motor that must be replaced.
• Check thermal protector: Some fans have an inline thermal cut-out. Test for continuity and replace if open.
• Replace fan motor or control board: If the fan motor is defective, replace it with the correct Fisher & Paykel cooling fan motor. If the motor is good but never receives power, the control board fan relay may be faulty and the board will need replacement.
