Microwave displays E2 and will not start heating; sometimes appears after a few seconds of operation.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the microwave before removing any covers. Avoid contact with high-voltage components. If you must access internal parts, discharge the high-voltage capacitor using proper procedures or have a technician do it.
Steps to address E2 humidity sensor issues:
- 1. Power reset: Unplug the microwave for 5–10 minutes to reset the control board. Plug back in and test. If E2 returns, continue.
- 2. Clean the cavity and sensor area: The humidity sensor is usually located behind a small grill or opening on the upper side wall or ceiling of the cavity. Clean the interior thoroughly with mild detergent and water, especially around any vents or grills. Dry completely.
- 3. Access the humidity sensor: Remove the outer cabinet. Locate the small sensor module near the top of the cavity, often connected by a small harness to the control board.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Check the sensor connector for corrosion, loose fit, or damaged wires. Reseat the connector firmly. If wires are frayed or burnt, the harness should be replaced.
- 5. Replace the humidity sensor: If the sensor body is cracked, discolored, or tests out of spec (per service manual values), replace it with a Galanz-compatible humidity/steam sensor.
- 6. Control board check: If a known-good sensor still results in E2, the sensor circuit on the main PCB may be defective. Control board replacement is recommended and should be done by a qualified technician.
