Safety: Unplug the microwave before any internal inspection.
- Reset power: Unplug for 1–2 minutes, then plug back in. Many GE models briefly show 8888 at power-up, then switch to the clock.
- Check keypad response: If the display remains stuck on 8888 and keys do not respond, the control board may be locked or defective.
- Try Clear/Off: Press and hold Clear/Off for several seconds to exit any test mode.
- Replace control board: If the display remains frozen, the main control board or display board likely needs replacement.
