How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety warning: The high-voltage section of a microwave (transformer, capacitor, diode, magnetron) can be lethal. Do not attempt internal HV repairs unless you are trained and know how to safely discharge the capacitor.
- Confirm symptom: Place a cup of water inside and run for 1–2 minutes. If the turntable and light work but water remains cold and E3 appears, the fault is in the heating circuit.
- Check basic items: Ensure the unit is on a dedicated outlet and not on an undersized extension cord. Low voltage can stress HV components but usually will not alone cause E3.
- Visual inspection (qualified persons): Unplug, remove the cover, and visually inspect the high-voltage area for burnt smell, charred components, or melted connectors around the transformer, capacitor, diode, and magnetron.
- Component testing: Using a multimeter and following service procedures, test the high-voltage diode and capacitor for shorts/opens, and check magnetron filament continuity. Replace any failed component with Gorenje-approved parts.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing parts, reassemble fully before testing. Never run the microwave with the cover removed.
