Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave before any inspection.
User-level checks:
- Allow the microwave to cool completely for at least 30 minutes, then try again with a small load (cup of water). If E05 reappears quickly, the sensor circuit is likely faulty.
- Ensure vents are not blocked and that the unit is not installed in a confined space causing overheating.
Technician-level checks:
- Locate the cavity temperature sensor (usually a small probe or thermistor clipped to the cavity wall or waveguide area).
- Inspect the sensor and wiring for damage, corrosion, or dislodged clips.
- Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature; compare with Hoover service specifications. A reading of near 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates failure.
- Check continuity of the harness from the sensor to the control PCB.
- If the sensor and wiring are good, suspect a faulty control PCB.
Recommendation: Replace the cavity thermistor if it is out of specification. If you are not comfortable opening the cabinet, contact a technician.
