Safety first: Unplug the microwave. Internal fuses and power components are connected directly to mains voltage.
User-level checks:
- Verify that the wall outlet is supplying power by testing with another appliance.
- Check that the plug and cord are not damaged.
Technician-level checks:
- Remove the outer cover and locate the main line fuse near the power entry or noise filter board.
- Test the fuse with a multimeter; if open, investigate for shorts before replacing.
- Inspect the noise filter board and wiring for burn marks or melted insulation.
- Check the low-voltage supply section on the control PCB (transformer or SMPS) for output voltages as per Hoover service data.
