Possible Causes
Damaged membrane keypad, Loose ribbon cable from keypad to control board, Moisture ingress behind control panel, Faulty control PCB keypad interface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any panels.
User-level checks:
- Wipe the keypad surface with a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the panel.
- Leave the door open and allow the control panel area to dry for several hours if steam or moisture has been present.
- Unplug the unit for 10 minutes to reset the control, then test all keys.
Technician-level checks:
- Remove the control panel assembly to access the keypad ribbon cable.
- Reseat the ribbon connector on the control PCB and inspect for corrosion or damage.
- Test keypad matrix continuity according to Hoover service diagrams; if certain keys do not register, replace the membrane keypad or entire control panel fascia.
- If keypad tests good, suspect the control PCB.
Recommendation: For persistent E09, replacing the keypad assembly is usually the most effective repair.
