Possible Causes
Shorted magnetron, Failed high-voltage transformer (non-inverter models), Shorted high-voltage capacitor, Shorted high-voltage diode, Inverter board failure (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave. The high-voltage section can store lethal charge. Do not touch the capacitor, transformer, or magnetron terminals.
- Reset and test: Unplug for 10 minutes, then reconnect and try a short cook cycle with a cup of water. If H98 returns, the high-voltage system is at fault.
- Visual inspection: Remove the outer cabinet and inspect the high-voltage transformer, capacitor, diode, and magnetron for burn marks, melted insulation, or arcing.
- Smell for burning: A burnt smell near the magnetron or transformer suggests internal failure.
- Do not attempt HV testing: Testing HV components requires specialized tools and procedures. For safety, do not attempt to discharge the capacitor or test the magnetron yourself.
- Professional repair: Have a qualified technician diagnose and replace the defective magnetron, high-voltage transformer, HV capacitor, or HV diode as needed.
