Possible Causes
Blown internal line fuse, Tripped thermal cut-out on cavity or magnetron, Faulty door interlock switch preventing power, Failed main control board power supply, Faulty power cord or plug
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave before opening the cabinet.
- Check outlet: Plug another appliance into the same outlet to confirm power is present. Reset any tripped circuit breakers.
- Inspect power cord: Check the Hotpoint microwave power cord for cuts, burns, or loose plug blades.
- Access internal fuse: Remove the outer cabinet and locate the line fuse (usually near the power cord entry). If visibly blown, investigate why before replacing.
- Check thermal cut-outs: Locate the cavity and magnetron thermal cut-outs. Ensure wiring is intact and components are not visibly damaged.
- Replace fuse with identical rating: If the cause of the blown fuse is identified and corrected (e.g., shorted door switch), replace the fuse with the exact same type and rating. Never bypass or oversize the fuse.
- Control board: If fuse and TCOs are good but the unit is still dead, the main control board may have failed and should be replaced by a technician.
