Possible Causes
Damaged waveguide cover, Exposed metal from chipped cavity paint, Metal object or twist-tie inside, Burned food residue on cavity walls
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Stop the microwave immediately and unplug it if you see sparks or smoke. Do not continue to operate until the cause is corrected.
- Remove metal objects: Ensure there is no metal cookware, foil, or twist-ties inside. Use only microwave-safe containers.
- Inspect waveguide cover: Locate the waveguide cover (usually a small mica or plastic panel on the side wall). If it is burned, cracked, or has holes, it must be replaced.
- Clean cavity: Thoroughly clean the interior with mild detergent and water, removing all burned-on food and grease, especially near the waveguide cover.
- Repair cavity paint: If paint is chipped exposing bare metal, sand lightly and apply microwave cavity touch-up paint according to instructions. Allow to cure fully before use.
- Replace waveguide cover: Install a new JennAir-compatible waveguide cover if damaged.
