Possible Causes
Open or shorted cavity thermistor, Overheated cavity due to blocked vents, Damaged thermistor wiring, Faulty main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave and allow it to cool completely.
User actions:
- Check ventilation: Ensure the top, sides, and rear vents are not blocked by cabinets, walls, or items on top of the microwave. LG over-the-range models require proper clearance and venting.
- Clean grease filters (OTR models): Remove the metal grease filters from the bottom, wash them with warm soapy water, dry completely, and reinstall. Clogged filters can cause overheating.
- Cool-down: Leave the door open for 30–60 minutes, then plug back in and test a short TIME COOK cycle.
If E3 reappears quickly, the cavity temperature sensor or control board likely needs professional diagnosis and replacement.
